7 cutting tools simultaneously

Significant cost and quality advantages in seamless rolled rings through the separation process of PTZ Weidner:

Multiple separation cuts
Shorter separation times (up to 10 times faster than conventional methods)
Very high flatness
Very high surface quality
Reduced post-processing effort
Very low heat generation, therefore no risk of burning
Narrower cutting width of only 3 mm = 60% savings
Lower tool costs (approx. 50% savings)
Longer tool life
Reduced setup times
Lower cutting noise of only approx. 64–75 dB
Automatic removal handling
Hardly any heat development
Dry material
Dry chips
Higher yield of rings from the same raw material
Safe holding and removal of separated rings (in compliance with safety regulations)
Lower energy consumption
Rings are not deformed
Low-stress cutting
Low-burr cut
Short chips
Very flat rings can be separated
Diameter-independent
Separation possible from outside to inside, as well as from inside to outside
Different ring heights simultaneously
No minimum residual clamping height required
Highlight: very delicate rings can be cut upside down and then placed down with precision.

Multicut System by PTZ Weidner – Part of the Solution.

The energy transition requires solutions — and often starts in the details.
With our precision-separated rings, we contribute to the economical and scalable production of hydrogen components for electrolysis systems.

A special focus lies on rings for hydrogen applications in accordance with pressure vessel regulations. In these applications, precision, material efficiency, and process reliability are essential.

Our rings are used across numerous industries, including:

• Tool and mechanical engineering
• Wind energy industry
• Aerospace industry
• Chemical and plant engineering
• Offshore / onshore technology
• Commercial vehicle and shipbuilding industry • Electric motor manufacturing • Medical technology • Hydrogen systems • Defense industry

The basis for our work mainly consists of seamless rolled rings, which we process efficiently and reproducibly using our precise ring separation technology — even in larger production volumes.

At the same time, we offer maximum flexibility:
From pure ring separation to ready-to-install components including material supply and final machining — together with our partners, we provide complete solutions from a single source.

At the same time, we continuously develop our technologies further.
We are currently working on:

• a separation machine for rings and discs including an innovative loading and unloading system • a system for machining flat steel or stainless steel rings with an innovative clamping system • as well as a system for simplified recycling

This is how we combine precision, innovation, and resource efficiency — for the challenges of tomorrow.

separating from outside to inside / from inside to outside

Another innovative machining capability of our CNC-controlled ring cutting machine equipped with the Multicut system is the ability to cut from the outside to the inside as well as from the inside to the outside.

In this example, we are processing a seamless rolled steel ring with an outer diameter of 1,880 mm and a wall thickness of 88 mm.

The key advantage compared to conventional cutting methods becomes particularly evident with materials that have high residual stresses – such as Inconel or stainless steels. Thanks to our specialized ring cutting technology, these materials can be separated far more economically, precisely, and process-reliably.

With our specially developed clamping and handling technology, the separated rings can be securely held from the inside or outside throughout the entire cutting process and then efficiently transported afterwards.

overhead cutting

Using our high-precision overhead ring-cutting technology, we achieve superior flatness and surface quality.

The advantages of our overhead ring-cutting process for steel, non-ferrous metal, wood, and plastic rings are demonstrated in our video.

Multiple Cutting of a Steel Ring with an Outer Diameter of 3,500 mm

With our newly developed CNC-controlled ring cutting machine and the innovative Multicut System, we perform multiple separation cuts in a single operation – precise, economical, and fully reproducible.
In this example, we process a seamless rolled steel ring with an outer diameter of 3,500 mm and a wall thickness of 54 mm. The result: multiple high-precision rings produced in a very short time while achieving outstanding flatness and surface quality.

world’s largest ring-cutting maschine – Video1

We already developed and built the world’s largest multi-patented ring cutting machine in 2016 for seamless rolled rings with diameters of up to 5,500 mm and sleeve heights of up to 1,000 mm. The ring cutting machine has now been consistently further developed and optimized in every aspect in the new CNC-controlled generation.
The cutting performance has been increased many times over. The chuck has been significantly enhanced in terms of functionality and flexibility. In addition, the entire clamping technology as well as the ring gripper system have been completely redesigned and substantially expanded.
Another key advantage of the new generation is that the cutting tools can be pre-set outside the machine. Equipped with the innovative Multicut system, the newly developed ring cutting machine significantly surpasses all previous cutting capacities.
Thanks to the newly developed gripper technology, substantially larger diameter ranges of separated rings can now be handled. Furthermore, multiple rings can be securely held simultaneously without deformation and can be automatically transported and unloaded after the cutting process.

In addition, the ring cutting machine can be seamlessly integrated into linked production lines and connected with turning, machining, or other automation systems. This enables highly efficient and future-proof manufacturing processes for the economical processing of rings made from a wide variety of materials and dimensions.
Our latest CNC-controlled ring cutting machine can be continuously expanded and adapted according to a modular design concept.
